Notable Professional Experience

Dr. Mtavangu is a senior Advocate of the Superior and Subordinate Courts in Mainland, Tanzania. He has been practicing as an Attorney since 2010. After graduating with his LL. B degree, he did his internship at Mkono and Company Advocates in Association with Denton Wilde Sapte before appearing for a bar examination. Mr. Mtavangu’s areas of practice include Employment and Labour Relations, Land Law and Conveyancing, Mortgage and Securities, Mining, Oil and Gas Law (Extractive Industry), Environmental Law, Corporate and Commercial Law, International Trade Law and Energy Law.

In the course of practice, under MMR Law Chambers, Mr. Mtavangu has appeared before the Courts of law, Tribunals and other quasi-judicial bodies representing corporate and individual clients in criminal and civil disputes. Besides, he has been a legal advisor and consultant of entities such as Kapunga Rice Project (KRP), Pwani Hauliers Limited (Formerly known as Dadho Road Haulers (T) Ltd, Tanzania Labour College (TLC) and Panic Security Group Limited. As such, he has outstanding skills and knowledge in legal consultancy, drafting legal opinion and contracts, court practice as well as litigations.

Mr. Mtavangu attended various prestigious academic and professional pieces of training in Tanzania and overseas. They include the 14th Faculty Roundtable on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) for East African Universities, Addis Ababa- Ethiopia, 2018 and Conference on African Public Interest Environmental and Human Rights Law, Arusha, 2018. Others comprise Intensive training in laws related to oil, gas and Minerals (as a visiting scholar) at the University of Mississippi Law School- United States of America (USA), 2015 and Training of Trainers’ Workshop on Legal Issues Related to the Implementation of International Environmental and Climate Law in Tanzania, Arusha, 2012.

Apart from legal practice, Mr. Mtavangu is also a Lecturer at Mzumbe University- Mbeya Campus where he lectures various undergraduate law courses. He has also taught in various academic and professional institutions such as the Institute of Judicial Administration (IJA), Lushoto and the Tanzania Labour College (TLC), Mbeya. Mr. Mtavangu is an excellent researcher and prolific writer of legal materials. He has published outstanding works on Environmental Law as well as Legal Profession and Ethics. Some of his publications are Appraisal of the Legal Framework Regulating E-Waste in Tanzania: Challenges and Prospects. 2. Balancing a Duty to the Court and to the Client: A Dilemma of Legal Practice in Tanzania. 3. The Rule against Advertising for Advocates in Tanzania: A Prompt Need to Relax and 4.
